Virtual Instructor-Led Training Conversion

CHALLENGE
Before 2020, FD215 and FD218 were delivered only in person. When COVID-19 halted classroom training:
📌 Hundreds of federal, state, and local food safety inspectors faced a training gap during a critical public health period.
📌 The FDA needed a quick solution that would not compromise course integrity, regulatory accuracy, or adult learning outcomes.
📌 Instructors, accustomed to face-to-face teaching, required support and resources to deliver training online effectively.

SOLUTION
I led the conversion of FD215 and FD218 into FDA’s first-ever virtual instructor-led training (vILT). Key actions included:
✅ Instructional Redesign: Transformed classroom activities into engaging online equivalents, ensuring alignment with FDA/OTED ISD principles and food safety competencies.
✅ Interactive Learning: Used Zoom breakout rooms for role-plays, videos for demonstrations, and PointSolutions for knowledge checks and decision-making scenarios.
✅ Instructor Enablement: Developed Instructor Guides and Production Manuals that included facilitation guides, timing cues, and classroom management strategies.
✅ Accessibility & Compliance: Ensured all content met Section 508 accessibility standards.

IMPACT
This project delivered measurable outcomes that strengthened FDA’s training program and provided lasting value.
